Scott Pearson’s Chartered Journey in Risk Management

Early career foundations, from warehouse operative to safety advocate

Scott’s journey into health and safety began unexpectedly in 2015 while working as a warehouse operative for a national delivery company. His keen attention to workplace safety and ability to advocate for safer practices led to his appointment as a Union Health & Safety Representative. This role laid the groundwork for his career in structured health and safety frameworks, an essential component of effective property management.

Professional development and formal qualifications

Recognising his potential, Scott’s Regional Health & Safety Manager mentor encouraged him to pursue formal health and safety qualifications. So, in 2019, Scott enrolled in a Level 3 Health & Safety course, which also coincided with his secondment to a Health & Safety Coordinator role. This blend of academic learning and practical experience was pivotal for Scott, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, where he regularly reviewed and implemented new procedures. A testament to his adaptability in managing risks in complex operational environments.

By the end of this period, Scott had earned his Level 3 qualification and attained Technical Membership of IOSH (TechIOSH). Solidifying his credibility in occupational health and safety.

Advancing leadership in health & safety management

Scott’s career progressed to a site-based Health & Safety Manager position in 2021. With ongoing mentorship, he embarked on a Level 5 qualification aimed at advancing his professional membership with IOSH. In 2022, he took on a more senior Health & Safety Manager role, with over 600 staff across six sites and four separate business units. A role demanding strong leadership, risk assessment acumen, and regulatory compliance.

During this time, Scott completed his Level 5 qualification and achieved Certified IOSH (CertIOSH) status, enhancing his capability to manage complex safety and risk issues in property management settings.

Joining Premier Estates, a new chapter in risk management

In 2024, Scott was recruited to our Risk Management Team, reporting once again to his long-time mentor, Colin Whalley, Head of Risk Management. His comprehensive experience in occupational health and safety, combined with his qualifications, made him an ideal fit to support our strategic objectives around risk mitigation, tenant safety, and compliance with evolving property management regulations.

A milestone in professional excellence

Shortly after joining us, Scott undertook the rigorous Chartered IOSH membership process. This involves a challenging examination, detailed written assessments, a CPD review, and a final panel interview by industry peers. Scott successfully passed all stages, earning Chartered status, a prestigious recognition of his expertise and professional judgement in health, safety, and risk management.

Continuing professional growth, enhancing expertise in fire risk

True to his commitment to excellence, Scott is now pursuing a Level 6 Diploma in Fire Risk Assessing. This specialised training complements his role, allowing him to provide enhanced fire safety risk assessments across the company’s property portfolio. An essential element in protecting both residents and assets.
