Fire safety training at City Lofts, Sheffield
December 10, 2024
Premier Estates are proud to be the managing agent for the tallest building in the heart of the fantastic city of Sheffield. Managing such a building can provide many opportunities for health and safety training, both for our staff and for the experts with whom we work.
Tall building fire safety training exercise
On Sunday 8th of December, it was the turn of the South Yorkshire Fire Service, who ran a practice exercise for their staff within the building to simulate evacuating a tall building in the event of a fire.
South Yorkshire Fire Service used the main staircase for six of their firefighters to practice safely escorting casualties to the ground floor.
Six of their staff were placed on various floors within the building, to simulate potentially different locations of residents who may have called 999 in the event of an incident. Each of which was to be collected by the rescuing team and safely escorted out of the building.
No flat was entered during the training exercise, to minimise the disruption to residents.
Fire safety training in a pedestrianised area
The exercise also tested the fire team’s procedures regarding the practicality of setting up outside a building located in a pedestrian area.
They compiled detailed planning for the event and confirmed they had been in touch with the council and landowners for permission for the use of the outside space prior to the exercise.
Notices were put up within City Lofts to inform residents of the exercise and to reassure them that it was a drill and not a real fire incident.
Premier Estates would like to extend our thanks to the RMC Directors of City Lofts for allowing this event to take place.
